Wilshire Boulevard Temple Wins President’s Award from LA Conservancy

The Los Angeles Conservancy honored MATT Construction, along with Architect Brenda Levin, and the entire building team with the Presidential Award for its restoration of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple.  The award is the highest in the organization’s prestigious annual ceremony, which draws attention to the most culturally significant preservation projects in Los Angeles County.

“The awards jury recognized this project’s massive scale and meticulous execution by experts across the spectrum of preservation, as well as its broad vision as the centerpiece of a campus to serve congregants and the community for generations to come,” said Linda Dishman, executive director of the Los Angeles Conservancy.

MATT Construction spent over 18 months surgically strengthening, restoring, and modernizing the facility, reviving the space for the future.   With its iconic Byzantine dome and Hugo Ballin murals, the re‐invigorated sanctuary is breathtaking.

“This restoration project was unique in that many of the finishes were the product of set design techniques perfected in Hollywood in the 1920’s,” explained MATT’s Project Executive, Jim Muenzer.  “There were many effects that we had not seen before in historic buildings, which we worked closely with our restoration teams to re‐create.”
