Located in the heart of the busy Pomona College campus, the project consisted of the replacement of the existing Millikan Math & Physics Building and a major renovation of the adjacent Andrews Science Lab for a total of 80,000 sf of building and an acre of site development. Space upgrades included physics laboratories, machine shops, a computer lab, teaching spaces, faculty and administrative offices, storage and student lounges. The project also included a new student courtyard and off-site mechanical yard. The Millikan building features a second floor domed planetarium and ground floor colloquium for 82 students. The LEED Platinum project incorporated sustainable features such as radiant ceiling panels and chilled beam cooling. Project challenges included a tight site in the heart of a very active campus, utility relocation and demolition of an existing concrete building in a sensitive neighborhood.
