After military service in the U.S. Army and a short career in construction with George M. Brewster, Al Matt rose through the ranks of Big 8 accounting firm Arthur Young before moving on to internal leadership roles with two Fortune 500 companies. Throughout his accounting career, he gained extensive experience in auditing, mergers and acquisitions, and new business operations.
His position with W.R. Grace brought him to California, where he spent the next 13 years in accounting and financial leadership roles within the oil industry.
In 1988, Al joined his brother, Paul, and nephew, Steve, at CL Peck/Jones, serving as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. When the opportunity arose in 1991, Al partnered with Paul and Steve to found MATT Construction Corporation. Since the company’s founding, he has served as Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary, helping guide MATT’s growth and financial stewardship for more than three decades.
Al holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Accounting from the University of Ottawa.
