David A. Herbst

David A. Herbst has served on the MATT Construction Board since 2012 and is the founder and managing partner of Vectis Strategies, a Los Angeles-based public affairs and strategic communications firm.

He was previously a senior executive at one of the nation’s top 10 PR & public affairs firms. Herbst has served as both a City of Los Angeles Commissioner and as a Los Angeles County Commissioner.

Herbst led the public education campaign that saved the $60 billion Los Angeles Air Force Base from being closed and was the lead lobbyist for the historic 2006 settlement agreement on the future of LAX.

He is respected for his work at Playa Vista, one of the largest urban infill real estate developments in the United States, where he was a consultant during the initial approval process and then Vice President of Corporate Affairs during the critical start of construction.

Prior to founding Vectis Strategies, Herbst was Chief Corporate Officer & Executive Vice President of Mercury Air Group, an aviation services company with over 60 locations worldwide. He served as Secretary on Mercury’s Board of Directors.

Herbst also served as a Director of Maytag Aircraft Corporation, a Colorado-based company involved in US government contracting internationally. He was also a founding Director & Secretary of Apollo Frieght, a perishable freight forwarding company.

Herbst is deeply engaged in civic and nonprofit leadership. He serves on the boards of Homeboy Industries, the National Foster Youth Institute, and the William H. Hannon Foundation.

Herbst graduated from Loyola Marymount University and serves on its Board of Regents.
