Martha Lampkin Welborne has served on the MATT Construction Board since 2021 and is a renowned architect and city planner with an exceptional career spanning leadership roles in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.  Recently, she has been: Senior Advisor to HR&A Advisors, a leading economic development consulting firm; Senior Vice President of Corporate Real Estate for The Walt Disney Company, overseeing 19 million square feet of non-theme park, multi-use space across 47 countries; Chief Planning Officer of the Los Angeles Metropolitan County Transportation Authority, leading a staff of 200 in planning twelve new transit corridors as well as overseeing the real estate department, among other initiatives; and Managing Director of the Grand Avenue Committee, a public/private partnership responsible for Gloria Molina Grand Park, The Broad museum, the Emerson apartments, and The Grand, a mixed-use high-rise project located directly across the street from the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Ms. Welborne’s early career as an architect and urban designer included leadership positions with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP and Sasaki Associates, Inc. Ms. Welborne graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with both a Master of Architecture and a Master in City Planning degrees. She was also a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. She is a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, and she also has served as President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. She was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts by the University of Notre Dame in 2017.
