Four MATT Construction Projects Take Home Awards at 2022 LABJ Commercial Real Estate Awards

MATT Construction and partners garner high honors at 27th annual Los Angeles Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards

For the past 27 years, Los Angeles Business Journal has held its annual Commercial Real Estate Awards event, recognizing the most notable commercial real estate projects and transactions from the past 12 months. The event honors the developers, architects, and general contractors of these award-winning projects. This year, MATT Construction and partners took home three Gold awards and one Silver award. Congratulations to the project teams at The Landmark Los Angeles, One Westside, Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s Audrey Irmas Pavilion and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for the high honors.

The Landmark Los Angeles: Gold Award, Multi-Family

Designed by MATT’s long-time partner Gensler and owned by Douglas Emmett Management LLC, Landmark Los Angeles (LMLA) earned the Gold Award in the Multi-Family category. As the first residential high-rise built west of the 405 freeway in more than 40 years, the 34-story tower features 376 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments–including 16 affordable units–as well as a 40,000 sf landscaped park at the corner of Wilshire and Stoner Avenue.

One Westside: Gold Award, Redevelopment

Awarded with the Gold Award in the Redevelopment category, One Westside represents the unprecedented adaptive reuse of Los Angeles’ Westside Pavilion from iconic shopping mall to a 584,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, Class-A creative office campus, now home to Google. The building’s completely transparent façade is made of floor-to-ceiling glass and architectural concrete and completely changes the way the building engages with the surrounding neighborhood. The building was designed by Gensler and developed by Hudson Pacific Properties, a proven leader in adaptive reuse projects.

Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s Audrey Irmas Pavilion: Silver Award, Architectural Excellence

Honored with the Silver Award in the Architectural Excellence category, The Audrey Irmas Pavilion is a new addition to Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s Glazer Family Campus that will serve as a multi-family purpose event space both for the congregation and the surrounding city. Beyond the pavilion serving as a new gathering space for the Wilshire Boulevard Temple congregation and surrounding city, philanthropist Wallis Annenberg established a 7,000 sf creative center for older adults on the third floor called GenSpace. The building, designed by OMA in collaboration with Gruen Associates, was designed to be iconic enough to be recognized as a new civic entity, but subtle enough to complement the iconicism of the existing temple.

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures: Gold Award, Architectural Excellence

In close proximity to Audrey Irmas Pavilion’s award, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures closed the ceremony by taking home the Gold Award in the Architectural Excellence category. Formally known as the notable May Company Department Store, the team transformed the 23,000 sf historic landmark structure into the transformative Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, encompassing more than 50,000 sf of gallery space, theaters, education labs, offices, conservation facilities, a restaurant and a retail store. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop in collaboration with Gensler, the project provides Los Angeles with the world’s premier institution devoted to the art and science of movies and moviemaking.

Congratulations to the building teams of the Landmark Los Angeles, One Westside, the Audrey Irmas Pavilion and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures! MATT Construction is honored to have accepted these awards alongside our talented partners from the above projects and is looking forward to continuing to celebrate these impactful projects throughout the rest of the 2022 awards circuit.
